Winter Lip Care + Simple DIY Lip Scrub. // Blogmas Day 1 ❄

Ho ho ho, Merry Blogmas!

I thought I’d kick off Blogmas with a very relatable problem; dry, chappy lips during the colder months. Dry lips are something I’ve battled with my whole life. After much experimentation I’ve finally discovered some lip products that actually work, plus a recipe for a DIY lip scrub which is very simple to do!

Let’s start with the lip scrub as exfoliating should be the first step in curing dry lips.

DIY Lip Scrub

Ingredients

You will need:

• Sugar (of your choice. I used white sugar)
• Honey
• A spoon
• A small pot (I bought mine for 99p from Superdrug)

How to make:

1. Place a spoonful of sugar into your pot.
2. Place a spoonful of honey into your pot.
3. Mix together to create your lip scrub.
4. That’s it. Honestly.
5. Add more sugar/honey where needed.
6. It’s really that simple.

How to use:

1. Pick up a small amount of the scrub with your finger and gently rub onto your lips for 1-2 minutes. The sugar works as an exfoliator, the honey as a moisturiser.
2. Wipe the scrub off your lips using warm water and a cotton pad (or lick it off; it tastes pretty good).
3. Gently pat lips dry with a hand towel.
4. Apply your favourite lip balm and leave overnight.

The finished product! Perhaps not as pretty as Lush, but it works!

Top 5 Under £5 Lip Balms

Now that we’ve used the lip scrub, it’s important to apply a good lip balm to soothe and moisturise.

1. Maybelline Baby Lips (£3.99 each)

I own about ten different Baby Lips balms but these are the three I use the most. I find Intense Care (the yellow one) to be the most effective during the winter. I also like using Cherry Me (the orange one) on days when my lips can’t handle any kind of lipstick because it gives a little pop of colour as well.

2. Vaseline Lip Therapy (£2.00)

A classic which probably doesn’t need that long of a review. I’ve always got a pot of this in my handbag for lip care on the go.

3. Superdrug Vitamin E Super Balm (£3.99)

The consistency of this one feels slightly more like a scrub than a balm; it quite grainy. This is the most recent lip balm I’ve picked up and I’m really liking it. I’m really curious to try more from the Superdrug Vitamin E range because I’ve been impressed with the Super Balm and the Skin Oil too.

4. Nivea Lip Butter (£2.00 – £2.25)

Nivea Lip Butters are also a classic. They have a very thick consistency so I prefer to use these at nighttime (I don’t like applying lipstick over these).

5. Barry M Lip Oil (£4.99)

Berry Good

This is a lip oil compared to a balm, but I still like this one a lot. It applies like a lipgloss and admittedly feels rather gloopy when you put it on, but it gives a nice pop of colour and hydrates my lips.
